Question: Timeline for supporting Dropbox API V2 #157

Open

Description

@joycechoong

We love using DropNet and hope there will be an update to support Dropbox API V2 before June 2017. Do you have a timeline of when or if an update will be released? Thanks for all the awesome work!

    Hello, I tried to contact Damian directly regarding the same question but differently from my last year experience he did not reply this time. Once I got no reply I decided to investigate myself and figured out that Dropbox provides .NET support themselves. Read here: Dropbox.NET.

    I was afraid it would be a difficult and time consuming task to move from DropNet to Dropbox.NET but actually it was surprisingly easy. I did not try to investigate about any history but it almost felt like Dropbox.NET is based on DropNet.

    I really love the way V2 is done. It works all very nicely and very very similarly as DropNet - API being however even simpler. The only think I was missing was a better support for the Auth2 part. My case might be a bit special but I will describe here how I solved it...

    I have 3 projects: WPF, Droid and iOS around the same Core PCL. I included "Dropbox.Api" into my Core project and did a self-programmed Auth UI for my WPF project. For the two mobile projects I can reuse all the functionality implemented by now in the Core project with the exception of Auth functionality. So I re-used the old Xamarin Dropbox components ("Dropbox Core API Android/iOS SDK") but only for the Auth part. They have that logic in them that opens either web browser or the native Dropbox application if installed on the same device, and they have the new OAuth2 included too. The rest of their functionality based on Dropbox API v1 is simply ignored in my project.

    Hope this answer helps,
    Jan
