OpenCode Terminal UI

Install this fork (local build)

This is axeluhl's fork, with local terminal features layered onto an official OpenCode release. The fork's default branch, local-build, includes the setup maintained on local-setup.

On Linux x86-64, install Bash, Git, curl, and unzip, then run either command:

# curl
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/axeluhl/opencode/local-setup/local/install.sh | bash

# wget (curl is still required by the installer)
wget -qO- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/axeluhl/opencode/local-setup/local/install.sh | bash

The installer sets up the official OpenCode binary and the required Bun version, checks out the source, merges the feature branches, and compiles the local build. It installs launch/update scripts in ~/.local/bin, updates your ~/.bashrc, and enables a daily update timer when a systemd user session is available. Open a new Bash terminal afterward to use opencode.

The default checkout is /usr/local/src/opencode, whose parent directory must be writable for the initial clone. To use a location under your home directory instead:

mkdir -p "$HOME/src"
curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/axeluhl/opencode/local-setup/local/install.sh \
  | OPENCODE_SRC="$HOME/src/opencode" bash

See the local setup guide for the branch layout, rebuilding, updates, and refreshing installed scripts.

Windows opencode-desktop-win-x64.exe
Linux .deb, .rpm, or .AppImage
# macOS (Homebrew)
brew install --cask opencode-desktop

Installation Directory

The install script installs OpenCode to $HOME/.opencode/bin.

Agents

OpenCode includes two built-in agents you can switch between with the Tab key.

  • build - Default, full-access agent for development work
  • plan - Read-only agent for analysis and code exploration
    • Denies file edits by default
    • Asks permission before running bash commands
    • Ideal for exploring unfamiliar codebases or planning changes

Also included is a general subagent for complex searches and multistep tasks. This is used internally and can be invoked using @general in messages.
