I can't seem to get anything in PyQt4 + matplot lib to respond to the softkeys. For example,
'g' doesn't draw the grid. I tested this with the example from the web site:
I built several PyQt4 applications using this and it didn't work with any of them.
Altogether I have spent a couple of days trying to track this down with no joy.

This is with PyQt4 version 4.6.2, Python 2.6.4, and Matplotlib 1.0,0.
This sounds to me like a misunderstanding; the "softkey" event handling is part of the mpl gui, and is not active when mpl is used to embed a plot in an external gui. Then events are handled by the gui, not by mpl.
