node-v26.13.0 issue on AIX 7.2 TL5 #67234

Open

Description

@vandysn

Version

26.13.0

Platform

AIX 7.2 TL5

Subsystem

No response

What steps will reproduce the bug?

I download and install node-26.13.0.tar.gz for AIX 7.2 TL5

#node -v
Could not load program ./node:
Dependent module /usr/lib/libc++.a(shr2_64.o) could not be loaded.
Member shr2_64.o is not found in archive

Only libgcc and libstdc++ were the pre requisites for node. So not sure why this error is showing up. node 24 worked okay.

How often does it reproduce? Is there a required condition?

Always

What is the expected behavior? Why is that the expected behavior?

Should show the node version.

What do you see instead?

#node -v
Could not load program ./node:
Dependent module /usr/lib/libc++.a(shr2_64.o) could not be loaded.
Member shr2_64.o is not found in archive

    Perhaps one of the team members or community members using IBM systems will be able to help? The general suggestion would be to check if you can install the dependencies that Node.js says are missing.

    Major version changes can introduce different requirements. For instance, https://nodejs.org/en/blog/release/v26.13.0 says:

    If you are updating from an earlier Long Term Support release (e.g. Node.js 24 or 22 or earlier) please note that since Node.js 25 the official binaries for Linux are linked against libatomic, which may need to be installed separately depending on your Linux distribution.

    Although this doesn't sound like it is your problem, it's an indication that dependencies can and do change between major version releases.

    Check if https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/fix-list-xl-cc-aix applies to your installation.

    Please let us know if you have been able to update the C++ software on your AIX system!

    @abmusse @sxa Given that we had to install prereqs onto the AIX machines for clang, I'm assuming this is an extra requirement from one of those now that we switched to building releases with clang for Node.js 26.

    Since this is a fileset and not an RPM, I have to reach out to an admin to do it which would take some time. I have another AIX 7.3 TL3 which works okay. It has below

    $ lslpp -l | grep libc++
    libc++.rte 17.1.1.4

    But the default set with AIX 7.2 is version 16 and that's not working.
